A fighting style that typically revolves around the usage of striking techniques, Fishman Karate is a special martial art that is used by elite and powerful members of the Fishman race, who can also use another power called Fishman Jujutsu. While it is obviously used by its namesake, it is also shown to be an art that humans can learn as well, as seen when Koala used it.
Fishman Karate is incredibly powerful, even on land. However, its true strength is seen in an underwater setting, where the natural strength and speed of the Fishman who created it are in their natural environment. As for the martial art itself, it can only be learned at the Fishman Karate Dojo, which is located on Fishman Island and the levels of proficiency in it are immense, as Kuroobi claimed to be a level 40 black belt in it.
Fishman Karate is all about manipulating the water around you!
Jimbei is incredibly adept at using this fighting style, and he said that the true secret of proficient use of Fishman Karate lies in the mastery that one has over the water in their surroundings. This is an extremely powerful ability as it gives users the ability to use any amount of water to deal substantial damage to their opponents, whether it's the moisture in the air or even the water that lies within one's body. This was seen when Jimbei was able to damage Luffy during the Fishman Island arc, despite Luffy being a rubber-man.
Moreover, since every Fishman is unique because of the inherent traits of their specific fish species, they can add these traits into their Fishman Karate to make it even more potent and unique. Since this fighting style can be used on land as well due to the moisture in the air, the user doesn't even need to make direct contact with their opponents in order to deal damage to them. The best users of this martial art can even hurl drops of water at the speed of bullets, making them lethal combatants with something as benign and normal as water.
Some notable techniques:
- Karakusagawara Seiken: One of Jimbei's signature moves, this attack allows the user to transmit their blows to their opponents through the water vapor/moisture in the air, making a shockwave that deals damage without even touching their enemies.
- Yarinami: Another move of Jimbei's, this allows him to make a spear from the surface of a body of water. This spear has enough force to puncture a hole through a solid object. It has another variant called the Murasame, where instead of one spear, Jimbei creates several.
- Uchimizu: This technique lets the user seemingly create a droplet of water from nothing that sticks to their hands which they can hurl at opponents. However, the speed at which this droplet travels is astronomical, giving it bullet-like properties that can pierce through multiple walls.
- Soshark: Another move that is shown by Jimbei, Soshark allows him to crush things with the strength of his palms. While it seems simple at first glance, its true power lies in the fact that Jimbei's grip strength is so strong that this technique is an effective counter to someone who is an adept user of hardening Busoshoku Haki!
- Fishman Karate: Giganteum: After Robin underwent tutelage of the martial art from Koala, she was able to use the powerful Fishman Karate in conjunction with her own powerful Devil Fruit powers, making her the only character in the entire series that has been shown to use both powers together.
Every living thing is made up of water. So, even a rubber-man can't escape the impact!
