Where the Crossroads Cast Is Today (2024)

In the early-2000s, and right in the midst of one of the biggest highlights of her career, pop superstar Britney Spears came up with an idea: to make a movie. Thus, she created a concept along with her team that would later become Crossroads, a production directed by Tamra Davis, with Shonda Rhimes serving as writer. While Spears made her cinematic acting debut a year earlier in Lionel C. Martin's comedy Longshot, 2002's Crossroads marked her first significant starring role in film, appearing alongside Zoe Saldana, Taryn Manning, and Anson Mount.

Crossroads follows three childhood friends from a small town in Georgia who, on the verge of graduation, embark on a road trip to California, determined to fulfill the wishes they made back in the day, and unaware that their journey would change their lives forever. The involvement of the hottest pop star at the time made this teen movie an absolute box-office hit, even though reviews from critics were not so kind and only highlighted Spears' and the rest of the cast's performance.

Over 20 years have passed since Crossroads was released, and many of the actors who were cast in it are still involved in industry projects now. Here's what they're doing today.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears leads the cast of Crossroads as Lucy, a shy young girl living with her strict father whose biggest dream is to meet her mother. To this day, Spears is best known as the Princess of Pop for her career in the music industry, which earned her widespread acclaim and established her as one of the best-selling singers in the world. After appearing in Crossroads, Spears followed up her acting career with a few other productions, like Austin Powers in Goldmember, Fahrenheit 9/11, and 2019's Corporate Animals. However, she mostly focused her efforts on music, releasing six more records.

Things took a turn in 2019 when allegations of a scandal with her father concerning her conservatorship were made public, sparking outrage from fans and other singers around the world, and prompting the development of the documentary Framing Britney Spears. After her conservatorship ended, Spears appeared more frequently on social media, and even collaborated with a few other artists, although she says she has no real intentions of returning to the industry.

Zoe Saldaña

Zoe Saldaña plays Kit in Crossroads, a popular young girl who always dreamed of getting married. This was one of the first major roles in the actress' career; she would rise to fame seven years later through her participation in two popular sci-fi projects: 2009's Star Trek and Avatar, where she played Neytiri for the first time. Saldaña effectively cemented herself as one of the industry's top-grossing actresses in 2014, when she joined the MCU to portray Gamora in the immensely popular movie Guardians of the Galaxy.

From then on, the actress remained very active in film and television, appearing in productions such as The Adam Project and Amsterdam and reprising her most popular roles in Avatar: The Way of Water and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Additionally, she excelled on television as executive producer and lead actress in Attica Locke's miniseries From Scratch and the TV show Special Ops: Lioness, which premiered last July.

Taryn Manning

Taryn Manning joined the cast of Crossroads to play Mimi, a young woman going through a tough personal situation, but she became globally known in 2013 as Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett in the popular show, Orange Is the New Black, one of Netflix's first original series that she remained involved in until the very end. After appearing in Crossroads and OITNB, Manning remained active in the industry, landing roles in film and television, though mostly focusing her efforts on movies.

She was spotted as a cast member in 2021's Every Last One of Them, Miranda's Victim, and One Day as a Lion, a 2023 film production in which she co-starred with Scott Caan, Frank Grillo, and J. K. Simmons. Next, she is expected to appear in the upcoming horror film Bloodline Killer alongside Bruce Dern, Tyrese Gibson and Shawnee Smith.

Anson Mount

Anson Mount made his film debut in 2000, and, soon after, joined the cast of Crossroads to play Ben Kimble, Lucy's love interest. Over the years, he took part in projects of all kinds, although he mostly focused on TV series, most notably in AMC's Hell on Wheels and Conviction. In 2017, Mount joined the MCU to play Black Bolt in the TV show Inhumans and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and subsequently joined the Star Trek franchise to bring Captain Christopher Pike to life. After starring in the 2022 thriller film MK Ultra, the actor joined Paramount+'s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to headline the cast as Captain Pike. The show is currently shooting its third season.

Kim Cattrall

Kim Cattrall joined the Crossroads cast to play Caroline, Lucy's mother, who abandoned her when she was just a child. But the actress was already a household name even before joining this project for her role as the iconic Samantha Jones in the TV series Sex and the City, whose popularity spurred the development of two films and a spin-off series.

In recent years, Cattrall made headlines when it became known that, unlike her former castmates, she was not cast in the Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That..., although she eventually landed a small cameo in its second season. Apart from this, the actress remains active in film and television, appearing in movies like 2023's About My Father and shows like How I Met Your Father, Queer as Folk, and Glamorous, a recent Netflix production that got canceled after one season.

Dan Aykroyd

Dan Aykroyd plays Pete in Crossroads, the demanding father of the film's leading lady. Of course, like Cattrall, the actor was already well-known to audiences for a number of projects, from Saturday Night Live to the hugely popular film franchise Ghostbusters, which he co-created and starred in as Ray Stantz. Over the years, Aykroyd continued participating in the franchise that brought him to fame by reprising his role in productions like Ghostbusters: Afterlife, but he was also involved in other projects, such as 2023's Zombie Town, Workin' Moms, and The Unbelievable With Dan Aykroyd, a TV series released last December. In the near future, he is expected to star in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the upcoming fifth film in the franchise that is due to hit theaters in March 2024.

Justin Long

Justin Long joined the cast of Crossroads to play Lucy's friend Henry, and around the same time, he gained notoriety for participating in films of all kinds, most notably in the horror and comedy genres. Among his most popular projects of the 2000s are Jeepers Creepers, Herbie: Fully Loaded, and Alvin and the Chipmunks. In recent years, Long has been mostly involved in horror movies, such as the critically acclaimed films Barbarian, Dead David, and It's a Wonderful Knife. His most recent project is Goosebumps, the Hulu and Disney+ TV series based on R. L. Stine's books in which he co-stars with Zack Morris, Isa Briones, Ana Yi Puig, and Rachael Harris.

Beverly Johnson

Beverly Johnson rose to fame in the 1970s by becoming the first Black model to appear on the cover of Vogue, and, over the years, she pursued a successful modeling and acting career, starring in such productions as Ashanti, The Meteor Man, and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. In 2002, she joined the cast of Crossroads to play Kit's mother, which became one of her latest film projects along with 2012's Good Deeds.

In recent years, the actress and model has not participated in as many projects as before, and was only spotted making cameos in a few TV shows. However, she made headlines again this year for launching her one-woman off-Broadway show Beverly Johnson: In Vogue, in which she revisits her entire career.

Jamie Lynn Spears

Spears' little sister made a small cameo in Crossroads playing young Lucy, and that role marked her acting debut back in the 2000s. Soon after, Jamie Lynn Spears would land the most prominent part of her career, starring in all four seasons of the Nickelodeon TV series Zoey 101. In 2008, she took a break from acting after giving birth to her daughter at the age of 16, and returned by the end of the 2010s to focus mainly on TV projects.

In recent years, she appeared as a contestant on a few reality TV shows and as a cast member in Netflix's Sweet Magnolias. She was also involved in several controversies after publishing her memoir in 2022 and being accused of exploiting her sister's situation to increase her sales. Her most recent project so far is Zoey 102, the Paramount+ film that served as a sequel to her most popular show.

Dave Allen

Rounding out this list is Dave "Gruber" Allen, who has a small role in Crossroads as a bar patron. The actor who became known for his roles in shows like The Higgins Boys and Gruber and Freaks and Geeks stuck around in the industry for a while following his appearance in the 2002 film, but his roles became scarcer as time went on. His most recent appearance on the silver screen came in 2016 as part of the all-female reboot film Ghostbusters, and he was last seen on TV two years later starring in the animated show Mighty Magiswords and Rob Riggle's Ski Master Academy.

Crossroads is available to stream on Netflix starting February 15
